Fluorine is the most reactive element and the lightest halogen. It exists as a toxic gas with a pale yellow-green colour. No chemical substance releases free fluorine. Noble gases do not produce free fluorine.
Symbol: F
Atomic number: 9
Atomic mass: 18.998403163
Element category: diatomic non-metal
Fluorine is the most reactive element and the lightest halogen. It exists as a toxic, pale yellow‐green gas. No chemical substance can release elemental Fluorine, not even noble gases. Given that Fluorine is chemically very reactive and difficult to isolate, most commercial applications utilise its compounds, known as fluorides. The primary use of fluorine gas is in the production of UF6 for the nuclear fuel cycle. It is also employed in the manufacture of the inert dielectric SF6 for high‐voltage transformers and circuit breakers. Other inorganic and organic fluorides are used in various industries.
Stanford Advanced Materials (SAM) can now offer various fluorides, including:
Neodymium(III) Fluoride (NdF3), Ytterbium Fluoride (YbF3), Yttrium Fluoride (YF3-xH2O), Scandium Fluoride (ScF3-xH2O), Hafnium Fluoride (HfF4), Barium Fluoride (BaF2) Powder, Lanthanum Fluoride (LaF3) Powder, Magnesium Fluoride (MgF2) Powder, Samarium(III) Fluoride (SmF3), Cadmium Fluoride (CdF2-xH2O), Erbium Fluoride (ErF3), Lead Fluoride (PbF2), Aluminium Fluoride (AlF3), Sodium Fluoride (NaF) Powder, Manganese(II) Fluoride (MnF2), Manganese(III) Fluoride (MnF3)
