Stanford Advanced Materials supplies a range of carefully manufactured carbides, categorised by quality, for thermal spray coating applications.
Tantal-Niobium Carbide TaC/NbC
This homogeneous, cubic solid solution is produced in any desired Ta to Nb ratio. It inhibits grain growth and maintains tool stability at elevated temperatures.
Vanadium Carbide VC
Vanadium carbide inhibits grain growth.
Chromium Carbide Cr3C2
Chromium carbide inhibits grain growth.
Tungsten Carbide WC
Grain sizes are available in the range of 0.5µm to 6µm.
Tungsten–Titanium Carbide WC/TiC
WC/TiC is produced in ratios of 50/50, 70/30 or 30/70. Tungsten–titanium carbide maintains material stability at high temperatures and resists oxidation.
Mixed Carbides WC/TiC/TaC/NbC
These ternary and quaternary cubic solid solutions are produced in customer-specific mixing ratios. They combine the attributes of WC/TiC and TaC/NbC. The mixed carbides remain stable at elevated temperatures, resist oxidation and inhibit grain growth.
Boron Carbide B4C
Zirconium Carbide ZrC
Powders for the Hard Metal Industry
Carbides (VC, TiC, Cr3C2, TaC, NbC, WC) and mixed carbides (TaC/NbC, WC/TiC, WC/TiC/TaC, WC/TiC/TaC/NbC) are essential raw materials for the manufacture of hard metals:
High Hardness: The hard metals are engineered to meet specified resistance levels for wear, abrasion and impact.
Precision Machining: The hard metals are manufactured with precise tolerances. They retain their cutting edges and ensure consistent machining results over extended periods.
Heat Resistance: The hard metals perform reliably in high-temperature environments. Their composition is designed to sustain elevated conditions and resist oxidation.
Versatile Applications: The hard metals are used in machining tools, mining equipment, aerospace components and wear parts. They serve multiple sectors such as manufacturing, oil and gas, automotive and construction.
Manufacturing: The hard metals are applied in precision manufacturing and are utilised in the machining of complex components.
Oil and Gas: In the oil and gas sector, the hard metals are employed in drilling and exploratory equipment that meets demanding conditions.
Automotive Industry: The hard metals are incorporated into engine components and braking systems to fulfil performance and durability criteria.
Construction: The hard metals are used in construction tools that withstand heavy loads and extended operational cycles.
Quality Assurance: The hard metals undergo rigorous testing. They conform to established industry standards, thereby ensuring quality and performance.
Technical Consultation: Our experts provide technical support in selecting the appropriate hard metal for specific requirements, thereby assisting in achieving optimal operational results.
Sustainability: The hard metals are designed for long-term durability. They contribute to more sustainable manufacturing practices.
