Chlor

Chlorides are compounds that contain chlorine in combination with an electropositive element. The chloride form of each metal is generally soluble in water, except for bleaching chloride, which is only sparingly soluble, and silver chloride, which is insoluble. Antimony chloride, bismuth chloride and others decompose in water, forming oxychlorides. Most metal chlorides can be melted without decomposition, except gold and platinum chloride. Metal chlorides conduct electricity when melted or dissolved in water. Electrolysis decomposes metal chlorides into chlorine gas and the corresponding metal.
