Ceriumdihydride Description
Ceriumdihydride (CeH2-3), also known as Cer(II)-hydride, is a bluish-black crystal with a CaF2 structure. It is produced at 523 K and atmospheric pressure using an impulse flow process. It ignites in humid air and reacts with water at 0 °C.

Cerium Dihydride Applications
1. Hydrogen Storage: Cerium-Dihydride demonstrates a high hydrogen uptake. It shows favourable thermodynamics and kinetics for hydrogen absorption and desorption. Consequently, it is suitable for hydrogen storage and fuel cell investigations.
2. Catalysis: Ceriumdihydride has been investigated as a catalyst in several chemical reactions. The hydride ion (H–) acts as a reducing agent. It has been used in hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, and C–C bond activation reactions.
3. Fuel Cells: Cerium-Dihydride can be deployed as an electrolyte material in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC). Its ionic conductivity at high temperatures has been established. This provides a stable matrix for proton or oxygen ions.
4. Thermal Energy Storage: The reversible hydride/dehydriding reaction of ceriumdihydride permits thermal energy storage. Heat is released during hydrogen absorption and desorption. This heat may be applied in heating, electricity generation, and industrial processes.
5. Hydrogen Sensors: Ceriumdihydride is used in hydrogen sensors. It absorbs and releases hydrogen reversibly. Consequently, it is employed in chemical installations, hydrogen refuelling stations, and fuel cell systems.
6. Electrochemical Devices: Ceriumdihydride finds application in rechargeable batteries and supercapacitors. Its ability to store and release hydrogen has been quantified. This increases the energy density and performance of these devices.
Ceriumdihydride Packaging
