Lithium hydroxide Monohydrate (CAS 1310-66-3) Applications
Lithium hydroxide Monohydrate (CAS 1310-66-3) is primarily used in the production of lithium greases. Lithium-12-hydroxystearate is a common thickening agent for lithium greases, owing to its high resistance to water and its effective performance over a range of temperatures, thereby producing an all-purpose lubricant.
Lithium hydroxide Monohydrate is employed in respiratory gas purification systems for spacecraft, submarines and breathing apparatus. It removes carbon dioxide from exhaled gas, resulting in the formation of lithium carbonate and water.
Lithium hydroxide Monohydrate is also utilised as a heat transfer medium and as an electrolyte for storage batteries. It is further applied in ceramics and in certain Portland cement formulations. Lithium hydroxide Monohydrate, isotopically enriched with Lithium-7, is used to alkalise reactor coolant in pressurised water reactors for corrosion protection.
Lithium hydroxide is used for the production of lithium greases, lithium soaps, lithium stearate and lithium salts. It is applied as an adsorbent for carbon dioxide in respiratory gas purification systems for spacecraft, submarines and respirators, as an electrolyte for storage batteries, as a heat transfer medium and as a catalyst in polymerisation reactions. It is also employed in ceramics and in certain Portland cement formulations.
