Micro-zirconium disulphide (ZrS2) Description
Micro-zirconium disulphide (ZrS2) is an inorganic compound with the formula ZrS2. It is a violet-brown solid. It exhibits a layered structure comparable to that of cadmium iodide. It belongs to Group IV of the transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDC). ZrS2 is thermodynamically stable and is produced in a cost-effective manner. Monolayers of ZrS2 exhibit n-type transport properties with relatively high mobility.

Micro-zirconium disulphide (ZrS2) Applications
Owing to its defined properties, including high electrical conductivity and stable performance, ZrS2 is employed in lithium-ion batteries. Its incorporation can extend the operational lifetime and enhance energy storage capacity, which is important for portable electronics, electric vehicles and renewable energy systems.
Given its established characteristics, ZrS2 is used in several applications. It is applied as a solid lubricant in the aerospace and automotive sectors, thereby reducing friction and wear between moving components. It is also added to greases and oils to improve lubrication performance, extend machine lifespan and reduce maintenance requirements. In the electronics industry, it is used as a conductive filler in materials such as thermal pastes and composites to enhance thermal conductivity and electrical performance. Furthermore, ZrS2 has potential applications in energy storage systems, particularly in supercapacitors and batteries, thereby contributing to improved performance.
