Zirconium-Ferro-Silicon Description
Zirconium-Ferro-Silicon is an alloy composed of zirconium, iron and silicon. This alloy is used in various industrial processes due to its measured corrosion resistance, high strength, thermal stability and oxidation resistance. In steel production it is used as a deoxidising and desulphurising agent, thereby improving the steel’s mechanical properties and purity. It is also employed as a gating agent in cast iron production, thereby enhancing the flowability and strength of cast components.

Zirconium Ferro-Silicon Applications
1. Steel Production: This alloy is used as a deoxidising agent to remove oxygen and other impurities in steel production. It acts as a desulphurising agent, thereby reducing the sulphur content and improving the steel’s mechanical properties and machinability.
2. Cast Iron Production: It is used as a nodularising agent in the production of ductile cast iron (also known as spheroidal or ductile iron). It promotes the formation of spheroidal graphite nodules and improves the flowability of molten iron, thereby reducing defects in the final product.
3. Alloying Agent: It is used as an alloying agent in the production of speciality alloys where zirconium provides increased strength, corrosion resistance and high-temperature stability.
4. Foundry Industry: It is employed in foundries to produce various metal castings, including automotive components, machine parts and pipe fittings, where specific metallurgical properties are required.
5. Refractory Materials: It is incorporated into refractory materials and coatings to improve resistance to high temperatures, oxidation and corrosion, thereby extending operational lifespan in harsh conditions.
6. Ceramic Industry: It is added to ceramic materials to modify properties such as strength, thermal shock resistance and chemical stability, particularly in high-performance ceramic applications.
