Europium (Eu, atomic number 63) is a silvery‐white, soft lanthanide rare‐earth metal. It exhibits fluorescent properties. It is used primarily in red fluorescent materials for televisions and displays, in LED lighting and in the control rods of nuclear reactors. Due to its scarcity, Europium has a market price that exceeds those of more common elements.
Symbol: Eu
Atomic Number: 63
Atomic Mass: 151 964
Element Category: Lanthanide
Europium is a ductile and silvery metal from the lanthanide group of rare earth elements. It exhibits a high level of reactivity compared with other rare earths and is used in various high-technology applications.
Europium absorbs neutrons efficiently; consequently, it is used in nuclear technology. In addition, it improves the laser properties of plastics utilised in modern laser systems.
In its compounds, Europium displays defined optical characteristics. For instance, Europium oxide (Eu₂O₃) is frequently used as a red phosphor in televisions, fluorescent lamps and as an activator in yttrium-based phosphors, thereby producing red colours.
Stanford Advanced Materials (SAM) offers a range of Europium products designed to meet the requirements of various industrial sectors:
