Cobalt-based powder is a hard alloy powder. It resists corrosion, oxidation and high temperatures. The powder comprises the elements Cr, Ni, Al and Y. Consequently, it is applied in thermal spray and weld overlay processes. It is used in biomedicine for implant junctions and dental prostheses.

1. Aerospace industry: CoNiCrAlY is utilised in engine components such as combustor linings, fuel nozzles and transition ducts. High-temperature and corrosion resistance are essential.

2. Energy generation: CoNiCrAlY is employed in combustion chambers and turbine blades in power stations, thereby reducing the effects of high-temperature oxidation and corrosion.

3. Chemical processing: CoNiCrAlY is applied in reactors and heat exchangers, given that it performs under corrosive conditions and elevated temperatures.

4. Petrochemical industry: CoNiCrAlY is used in refineries where processing equipment operates with high temperatures, corrosive gases and sulphur-containing compounds.

5. Furnace components: CoNiCrAlY is employed for furnace linings, radiant tubes and muffles. It withstands high temperatures and corrosive atmospheres in industrial heating processes.

6. Biomaterials: CoNiCrAlY is utilised in medical implants and dental applications. It meets the requirements for biocompatibility, corrosion resistance and high-temperature sterilisation procedures.

7. Coatings and surface protection: CoNiCrAlY is applied as a coating on various metal surfaces to improve resistance against oxidation, corrosion and wear.

Spherical powders are generally packaged in vacuum aluminium foil bags or filled with inert gas (Ar).
