Ceriumhexaboride (CeB6) is a refractory ceramic and cathode material. This inorganic compound has a melting point of 2 552℃.
When used as a cathode coating, CeB6 exhibits a lower evaporation rate than LaB6 in atmospheres below 1850 K. This enables CeB6 to maintain its optimal tip form for a longer period. The lifespan of the CeB6 cathode is 50% longer than that of LaB6 due to its increased resistance to carbon contamination. The boride cathode delivers ten times the brightness of a tungsten cathode, and its lifespan is between 10 and 15 times that of a tungsten cathode.
