Citrat(3-) is a tricarboxylate anion that forms as citric acid loses a proton from each of its three carboxyl groups.
Citrat(3-) is a tricarboxylic anion that forms by deprotonating the three carboxyl groups in citric acid. It functions as a fundamental metabolite. It is both a citrate anion and a tricarboxylic anion. It is the conjugate base of Citrat(2-). It is the conjugate acid of Citrat(4-).
