Ceramic tubular membranes based on aluminium oxide are porous, fine ceramic filters made from aluminium oxide, titanium dioxide, or zirconium dioxide, sintered at ultra-high temperatures. The ceramic membrane typically exhibits an asymmetric structure with a porous active membrane layer as support. The macroporous support ensures mechanical strength, while the active layer facilitates separation from microfiltration to ultrafiltration and nanofiltration. Ceramic membranes always operate in CROSS FLOW FILTRATION mode. The turbid liquid flows at high velocity through the membrane layer in a single or multi-channel system. Driven by pressure, the clean liquid permeates through the membrane layer vertically, allowing micro-sized molecules to pass while retaining solid and larger molecules. This process clarifies, concentrates, and purifies the input liquid.
