Introduction This investigation focuses on the composition of Charon's stratified surface, specifically identifying the presence of carbon dioxide and hydrogen peroxide. Utilizing data from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), this study offers crucial insights into the chemical processes occurring on this Kuiper belt object. The identification of these volatile compounds contributes significantly to our understanding of the formation and evolution of icy bodies in the outer solar system and provides context for the conditions prevalent during the early solar system. This research aims to characterise the distribution and abundance of these species, shedding light on potential surface-atmosphere interactions and cryovolcanic activity.
