Introduction	This study aimed to assess the prevalence of contact sensitisation in the general adult population and examine its association with sociodemographic and medical factors. Conducted in Germany, the research involved patch testing 1 141 adults with 25 standard allergens, revealing a 40% sensitisation rate, with fragrance mix, nickel, thimerosal, and balsam of Peru as common allergens. Women showed higher sensitisation rates than men, and those with adverse skin reactions were more frequently sensitised, particularly to nickel and fragrance mix. Contact sensitisation was inversely related to occupational training level. No significant associations were found with allergen-specific IgE antibodies, atopic eczema, or psoriasis.
