Introduction This study examines how the processing history influences the fracture life of nickel-titanium endodontic files. The research utilises X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and microhardness tests to analyse the microstructure of these engine-driven rotary instruments. The high work-hardening and defect density in these files can disturb phase transformation, as confirmed by Vickers microhardness tests, indicating dislocations and precipitates. Extended experimental spectrum lines in X-rays suggest a distorted lattice, while the surface condition observed via scanning electron microscopy significantly influences failure and fracture initiation.
