Description of Hydrophilic/Hydrophobic PVDF Membranes

PVDF membranes are inherently hydrophobic, unsupported membranes that have garnered significant attention due to their excellent properties, including high thermal stability, outstanding mechanical strength, and chemical resistance, making them resilient against organic solvents, corrosion, and oxidation, while withstanding solutions with a pH of 2-10.

The hydrophobic PVDF membrane provides excellent hydrophobic capability, rapid air throughput, and professional general/sterile filtration capability. Its design allows for easy mounting since the front and back do not need differentiation. It serves effectively as a PVDF vent membrane filter or for air filtration/sterilisation in medical devices or diagnostic tests.

Furthermore, the hydrophobic PVDF membrane can serve as a support medium for biosensors or as a transfer membrane for protein blotting applications. Its optimised porous structure and high protein binding capacity facilitate access to bound proteins and the removal of unbound probes.

The hydrophilic PVDF membrane, exhibiting very low protein binding and high flow rates, is ideal for clarification, prefiltration, and sterilisation filtration of liquids such as water, diagnostic reagents, buffers, cell culture media, ophthalmic solutions, blood products/serum, etc., providing efficient retention of bacteria and particles.

The hydrophilic version of the PVDF membrane is widely used in syringe filters, funnel filters, vacuum filters, and sterility testing apparatuses for particle removal, sample preparation, or general filtration, among other applications.
