Iridium is a hard, brittle, lustrous, silvery‐white and dense metal from the platinum group. It exhibits the highest corrosion resistance among metals. Researchers use pure iridium as a hardening agent for platinum. Scientists use iridium crucibles to grow large, high‐quality single crystals. Today, engineers frequently apply iridium coatings to electrodes in the chlor‐alkali process and incorporate it in catalysts.
Iridium ingots, discs, plates and sheets, powders, strips, wires and vapor deposition materials.
