Lanthanhexaboride Disc Description
The Lanthanhexaboride Disc (LaB6 Disc, also known as Lanthanboride and LaB6) is an inorganic chemical substance. It has a melting point of 2 528 K. LaB6 is a refractory ceramic material that is very insoluble in water. When heated (calcination), it converts to its oxide form, and in vacuum the material remains stable. Stoichiometric samples exhibit a deep violet colour, whereas boron‐rich samples (above LaB6.07) appear blue. Ion bombardment alters the colour from violet to emerald green. The LaB6 Disc exhibits superconductivity with a transition temperature of 0.45 K.
Borides are hard, high-melting materials with metallic conductivity. They remain stable in non-oxidising acids; however, they decompose in strong oxidising agents and strong alkalis. Borides are utilised in semiconductors, superconductors, diamagnetic, paramagnetic, ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic materials, turbine blades and rocket nozzles. Highly pure (99 999%) Lanthanboride sputtering target nanopowder forms can be considered.
