Oil-dispersible upconverting nanoparticles contain oil-dispersible NaYREF4 (RE: Yb, Er, Tm, Gd, Mn, Lu) UCNs with an optimal excitation wavelength of 975 nm. The sensitiser is Yb3+, and the activator is Er3+ or Tm3+. The doping concentrations are optimised, resulting in strong upconverted emissions at specific wavelengths. The UCNs exhibit high quantum efficiency and are very photostable.
