Osmium Fluoride Description
Osmium Fluoride (CAS: 13768-38-2) is a water‐insoluble source of osmium designed for oxygen‐sensitive applications such as metal production. Fluoride compounds find varied applications in modern technology and science, including oil refining, etching, synthetic organic chemistry and pharmaceutical manufacture. For example, in 2013, researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Quantum Optics employed magnesium fluoride to develop an optical frequency comb in the mid‐infrared region. This device, which was assembled from crystalline microresonators, may contribute to advancements in molecular spectroscopy.
Fluorides are frequently used in metal alloying and optical deposition processes. Osmium Fluoride is generally available in bulk quantities. Both ultrahigh purity and high purity compositions enhance its optical performance and render it suitable as a scientific standard. Nanoscale elemental powders and suspensions can be considered as alternative forms, offering a high surface area.
Stanford Advanced Materials (SAM) produces a range of standard grades. These include Mil Spec (military grade), ACS, reagent and technical grades, as well as food, agricultural and pharmaceutical quality, optical quality, USP and EP/BP (European Pharmacopoeia/British Pharmacopoeia). Typical and custom packaging options are offered. Additional information regarding technical data, research and safety (MSDS) is available, and a unit conversion calculator for relevant measures is provided.
