Hesperidin Powder Description

Hesperidin Powder is a crystalline flavonoid glycoside, chemically defined as hesperetin-7-O-rutinoside. It consists of the aglycone hesperetin covalently bound to the disaccharide rutinose. The powder appears as a fine, pale‐yellow to off‐white substance and registers minimal odour. A melting point range of 252–256°C is observed under standard atmospheric conditions, and a specific optical rotation of [α]D²⁰ = –76° (c = 2, in pyridine) is recorded. The solubility is dependent on the solvent. It is practically insoluble in cold water (approximately 1:10,000), sparingly soluble in boiling water (1:50), moderately soluble in methanol (1:100) and dimethyl sulfoxide, and readily soluble in dilute alkali solutions, where it forms yellow salts. The crystals are washed with an ethyl acetate/water mixture (1:3 v/v) and subsequently dried in a fluidised‐bed at 40°C (with relative humidity below 15%) until the moisture content is ≤1.5%. Final jet milling produces particles with D90 less than 80 µm.
