Sodium Formate Powder crystallizes as orthorhombic hygroscopic crystals or
free-flowing granules with a molecular weight of 68.01 g/mol and a
decomposition onset at >400°C. The formate ion (HCOO⁻) provides strong
reducing capacity (redox potential -0.43 V), facilitating rapid conversion of
Cr(VI) to Cr(III) in industrial processes. It demonstrates exceptional
solubility in water (97.2 g/100mL at 20°C), moderate solubility in glycerol (16
g/100mL), and negligible solubility in nonpolar solvents. Thermal stability
extends to 253°C (melting point), beyond which decomposition releases hydrogen
and sodium oxalate. Technical grades exhibit controlled impurities: chloride
≤0.01%, sulfate ≤0.02%, heavy metals (Pb ≤5 ppm), and formic acid ≤0.1%.
Hygroscopicity requires storage at ≤65% RH to prevent caking.

No. Regulatory limits apply: beverages ≤25 ppm, thermally
processed foods ≤250 ppm, and emulsified products ≤150 ppm. Excess use may
cause mineral depletion or allergic reactions.
Q2. Why does my EDTA solution appear cloudy?
Cloudiness indicates interaction with hard water ions
(Ca²⁺/Mg²⁺). Always use deionized water (resistivity >1 MΩ·cm) and filter
through 0.45 μm if needed.
Q3. Is it safe for cell culture applications?
Only endotoxin-free grades (≤0.5 EU/mL) are suitable.
