Wolframdisulfid-Pulver (WS2-Pulver) Description

Wolframdisulfid powder (WS2-Pulver) is a dry, solid lubricant in powder form. It exhibits an exceptionally low friction coefficient compared with many lubricants. The powder offers a dynamic friction coefficient of 0.03 and a static friction coefficient of 0.07.

Wolframdisulfid-Pulver (WS2-Pulver) Features

WS2 is applicable in high-temperature and high-pressure situations. It performs between -450° F (-270° C) and 1 200° F (650° C) in ambient atmosphere. In vacuum conditions, it is effective from -305° F (-188° C) to 2 400° F (1 316° C). The load capacity of the coated film is rated at 300 000 psi. WS2 may be used as a substitute for molybdenum disulfide (MoS2). Given the quantitative friction properties, multiple formulations can be developed.

Wolframdisulfid-Pulver (WS2-Pulver) Applications

WS2 powder can be utilised by two established methods:

1) Mixing WS2 powder with liquid lubricants (such as oil, grease and other synthetic lubricants):
The powder is blended at 1 to 15 weight per cent with oil or grease according to requirement. This mixture enhances lubricant performance and improves high-temperature and extreme-pressure properties. During operation, the WS2 is deposited on moving parts, thereby reducing friction and extending service cycles.

2) Applying WS2 powder onto a substrate requiring dry lubrication:
The powder is sprayed onto the substrate using dry, cool compressed air at 120 psi. No binders are required, and the spraying is performed at ambient temperature. The resulting coating has a thickness of 0.5 micrometres. Alternatively, the powder can be mixed with isopropyl alcohol to form a paste that is applied onto the substrate surface. This coating method is employed in automotive components, racing engine parts, aerospace components, bearings (linear, ball, roller bearings etc.), shafts, maritime parts, cutting tools, blades, knives, mould separators, precision gears, valve components, pistons, chains, machine parts and other areas.
