UV Quartz Cuvettes Description

The UV Quartz Cuvette is developed and manufactured from quartz glass (SiO2/silica). Quartz is the second most abundant mineral in the Earth's crust. Its formula is SiO2, but in crystal form, it transforms into SiO4. There are many varieties of quartz named after their microstructure, such as rock crystal and citrine. Our cuvettes are made from quartz glass, a glass that contains almost pure silicon dioxide (SiO2) in non-crystalline form. Unlike other quartz glasses, whose optical and physical properties are altered through the addition of additives, quartz glass has a higher working and melting point while possessing good ability to transmit ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths. Due to these properties, quartz glass is commonly used in semiconductor production and in laboratory apparatus such as lenses and cuvettes. The low thermal expansion coefficient makes quartz glass a suitable material for manufacturing precision mirror holders.

Stanford Advanced Materials offers two polished quartz cuvettes for absorption spectroscopy and four polished quartz cuvettes for fluorescence spectroscopy. Super-micro and micro two-polished quartz cuvettes are bonded with adhesive. Other cuvettes adhere under high pressure by heating quartz glass. This improves the chemical resistance of the cuvettes.
