Tungsten Carbide

Tungsten carbide is a dense metallic substance that appears light grey with a slight bluish sheen. Instead of melting, tungsten carbide decomposes at a temperature of 2 600 °C. Powdered tungsten is heated with soot in a hydrogen atmosphere. The process requires temperatures between 1 400 and 1 600 °C (2 550–2 900 °F) to manufacture tungsten carbide.
