Aluminium-Lithium Alloy (Al-Li) VL30 Description
The Aluminium-Lithium Alloy (Al-Li) VL30 is an alloy composed of aluminium and lithium. It often contains copper and zirconium. Lithium is the lightest metallic element. The addition of lithium to aluminium reduces the specific weight of the alloy and increases its stiffness, while maintaining high strength, good corrosion and fatigue resistance, and suitable ductility.
Lithium reduces the density and increases the stiffness when alloyed with aluminium. With proper alloy design, aluminium-lithium alloys may meet defined criteria for strength and toughness.

Aluminium-Lithium Alloy (Al-Li) VL30 Applications
Aluminium-lithium alloys are used in shipbuilding, aeronautics and space, and electronic components because of their low weight, good formability, and corrosion resistance. In the aeronautical and space industries, these alloys are employed for wing leading and trailing edges, fuselage stringers, and internal framework components. Al-Li is considered for many applications in modern aircraft, including wing structures.
