Description of Pyrolytic Boron Nitride
Pyrolytic boron nitride (PBN) is composed of raw materials with a far higher level of purity than standard boron nitride ceramics. It is a high-purity, non-porous material that can be deposited via chemical vapour deposition (CVD) onto various types of graphite forms. Although PBN may be deposited on other materials, it is generally used on graphite. This is because the CVD process requires extremely high temperatures and a corrosive atmosphere. Graphite materials coated with PBN exhibit improved surface performance. They demonstrate higher purity, reduced porosity and decreased roughness. The PBN material tolerates temperatures up to 2 500°C. Given that the coated products perform efficiently in high vacuum and at elevated temperatures, they are suitable for applications in the semiconductor industry.
