Applications of Titan(IV)-Bromide Powder
Titan(IV)-bromide powder can function as a Lewis acid catalyst in the synthesis of several compounds.
It catalyses the formation of α-bromomethylene aldehydes via the reaction with aryl aldehydes and but-3-yn-2-one in the Baylis-Hillman process.
It is used to prepare Titan(II)-bromide. In combination with copper, this system facilitates the pinacol reaction.
It also assists in the synthesis of α-brom-γ-hydroxyenamides from ynamides and aldehydes or ketones.
