Alumina Boats Description
Alumina boats are manufactured from high-purity aluminium oxide (Al2O3) and exhibit excellent thermal conductivity, compressive strength, thermal shock resistance, and chemical stability. Their low thermal expansion and superior electrical insulation render them suitable for high-temperature and corrosive environments. These properties result in alumina boats being extensively employed in laboratories for furnace operations, chemical reactions, and thermal analysis; in materials science for sample preparation and powder processing; and in industry for metallurgy, glass, and ceramics production. They are also essential within the semiconductor industry for wafer processing and in the chemical industry as catalyst supports.
Alumina Boats Applications
Alumina boats are designed to support samples at high temperatures, with good chemical stability, thermal insulation, and mechanical strength. Usage includes:
- Elemental Analysis – Ideal for CHN (carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen) and other combustion elemental analysis with quantitatively accurate results.
- Thermal Analysis – Suitable for TGA, DSC, and other thermal analysis instruments to examine decomposition, combustion, or mass change at elevated temperatures.
- Material Research – Utilised for ashing or combusting powders, minute solids, or mixture samples in laboratory and testing applications.
- Environmental and Chemical Testing – Employed for analysing impurities or complex organic/inorganic compounds; further examination of combustion residue is possible.
- High-Temperature Protection – Provides a chemically inert and mechanically robust container, preventing sample contamination or reaction with the furnace walls.
