Introduction Chromium is a vital nutrient that plays a role in regulating carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. Dietary chromium intake is frequently insufficient in both humans and livestock. Beyond its influence on glucose, insulin, and lipid processing, chromium has been linked to gains in lean body mass and reductions in body fat percentage, potentially contributing to weight reduction in humans. While the impact of chromium on body composition remains a subject of debate, animal research lends support to these claims. An individual's response to chromium supplementation depends on their existing chromium levels, dietary habits, the specific form and dosage of supplemental chromium, and the duration of use. No adverse effects have been substantiated in nutritional studies involving chromium. It is important to note that chromium represents only a minor component in managing weight loss and body composition, and any benefits it provides are likely modest when compared to the significant influence of physical activity and a balanced diet.
