Introduction In recent years, the field of stereoretentive olefin metathesis using ruthenium dithiolate complexes has experienced significant growth. These exceptional catalysts enable the kinetic production of Z- and E-alkenes with high stereochemical purity, often exceeding a 95:5 ratio, from stereochemically pure precursors. This tutorial review aims to systematically present the information on ruthenium dithiolate catalysts, creating a guide for chemists interested in applying this technique to synthesis.
