Introduction The modern approach in olefin metathesis leverages N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC)-containing ruthenium alkylidenes for creating internal C=C bonds, and cyclic alkyl amino carbene (CAAC)-containing ruthenium benzylidenes for producing terminal olefins. The newly reported synthesis of bis(CAAC)Ru indenylidene complexes demonstrates exceptional efficiency in forming both terminal and internal C=C bonds at minimal loadings of just 1 ppm.
