Introduction Nitroaromatic compounds are significant pollutants that pose risks to human and animal health. Rhenium nanostructures demonstrate increased catalytic activity compared to other heterogeneous catalysts. This study explores the catalytic reductions of various nitroaromatic compounds, including nitrobenzene and 4-nitrophenol, using novel rhenium-based heterogeneous catalysts. The catalysts were designed to support the synthesis and stabilisation of small rhenium structures, enhancing hydrogenation efficiency under mild conditions. The use of bis(3-aminopropyl)amine resulted in rhenium sub-nanostructures with high catalytic rate constants, indicating potential for environmental remediation applications.
