Introduction This study reports on the synthesis and characterisation of 24 ruthenium(II) arene complexes, focusing on their potential cytotoxic effects. The complexes, which include single-crystal X-ray diffraction data for 21 new entities, were examined for their chemosensitivity against human pancreatic carcinoma, colorectal adenocarcinoma, and normal epithelial cell lines. The most potent complex, featuring a 2-furan-substituted ligand, exhibited enhanced cytotoxicity compared to its 3-furan analogue. Furthermore, the ability of these complexes to damage DNA was evaluated under hypoxic conditions and shorter incubation times using the comet assay. Their potential to inhibit bacterial and fungal growth was also assessed, highlighting their diverse biological activities.
