Description of AISI 4140 Alloyed Steel Square Bar
AISI 4140 exhibits a high level of ductility and may be reshaped using conventional techniques when in an annealed state. Given that its toughness exceeds that of other unalloyed steels, higher force is required for deformation. AISI 4140 is applied in situations where greater toughness and wear resistance than that of lower carbon grades is required. Common applications include scrapers, support blocks, mould bases and jigs.

Applications of Square Bar from the AISI 4140 Alloy
Typical applications for 4140 include:
- Gears:
- Used in the manufacture of gears for machinery and automobile systems. AISI 4140 steel, with a tensile strength of 655 MPa and a yield strength of 415 MPa, meets the quantitative requirements for wear resistance and load handling.
- Crankshafts:
- Used in the production of crankshafts for engines, particularly in the automotive and aerospace sectors. The material’s mechanical properties satisfy specified performance criteria for engine components.
- Suspension Systems:
- Employed in the manufacture of components for vehicle suspension systems, thereby providing the necessary strength and toughness to withstand dynamic loads.
- Bulldozer Buckets:
- Used in the production of bulldozer buckets. The hardness (197 Brinell) and measured toughness support resistance to wear and impact during heavy earthmoving operations.
- Oil and Gas Equipment:
- Used in the manufacture of components for oil and gas exploration and production facilities, whereby the measured strength and environmental resistance of the steel ensure reliable function in demanding conditions.
Packaging:
