Molybdenum Foil Description
Molybdenum is a grey‐coloured metal that exhibits a high melting point of approximately 2 623 °C. It occurs in various oxidation states in minerals, but it does not occur naturally as a free metal. Molybdenum converts readily into carbides that are both hard and chemically stable. Consequently, it is used in the manufacture of steel alloys, high‐strength alloys and superalloys. Molybdenum foil is one form of molybdenum product and is applied in electronics, aerospace, electrical lighting, heating elements in vacuum furnaces, thermal shields, molybdenum boats and molybdenum crucibles.

Properties:
1. High melting point: Molybdenum has a melting point of approximately 2 623 °C, thereby retaining its structure at elevated temperatures.
2. High density: With a density of about 10.28 g/cm³, molybdenum foil performs reliably in applications that require stable material attributes.
3. Good thermal conductivity: Molybdenum conducts heat efficiently, thereby enabling rapid heat transfer and dissipation in thermal management systems.
4. Mechanical integrity: In foil form, molybdenum maintains adequate strength and flexibility, which permits bending or deformation when necessary.
5. Chemical resistance: Molybdenum foil resists a range of chemicals, thereby extending its use in specialised environments.

Applications of Molybdenum Foil
1. Semiconductor Industry: Molybdenum foil is used in the thin film deposition process during semiconductor fabrication to produce components such as metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs).
2. Electronics: Owing to its high melting point and effective thermal conductivity, molybdenum foil is employed in electronic devices as a heat sink, thereby maintaining device performance under high temperatures.
3. Laboratory Research: Molybdenum foil is utilised in laboratories for experiments that include thin film deposition and optical studies. Such experiments require operation at high temperatures and the use of dense materials.
4. Vacuum Equipment: Molybdenum foil is incorporated into vacuum equipment and fittings; its high melting point and chemical resistance ensure stable performance under high-temperature and vacuum conditions.
5. Thermal Insulation Coatings: Molybdenum foil is used in the production of thermal insulation coatings that provide temperature control in high-temperature environments.
Molybdenum Foil Packaging
Molybdenum foils are handled under controlled conditions to minimise damage during storage and transport, thereby preserving their original material properties.
