Description of Molybdenum-Lanthanum Wires

Molybdenum-Lanthanum (Mo-La) is an alloy produced by adding lanthanum oxide to molybdenum. The wire exhibits a higher recrystallisation temperature, increased ductility and greater wear resistance. Molybdenum (Mo) is grey metallic and has the third highest melting point among elements after tungsten and tantalum. High-temperature molybdenum wires are also known as Mo-La alloy wires. They are utilised in structural applications at high temperatures, for instance in pressure pins, nuts and screws. They are also used in halogen lamp bases, furnace heating elements and wiring for quartz and high-temperature ceramic materials. Molybdenum wire with a composition of 99.95% is used in single- or double-coil cores, lamp magnetic grids, retention rods and pin wiring. The machining of molybdenum wire is performed as a chip removal process on copper forms, cemented carbide and magnetic materials. Doping with rare earth elements enables its use in applications that require elevated current capacities and efficient energy conversion.
