Gadolinium Acetate (Gd(C2H3O2)3) Description
Gadolinium acetate is a compound of gadolinium from the rare earth group. It is water-soluble and decomposes to gadolinium oxide when heated. Gadolinium is a rare earth element with a high magnetic moment. This magnetic moment reduces relaxation times and thereby enhances signal intensity. It is used in the manufacture of semiconductors and in the shielding of nuclear reactors. In combination with EDTA ligands, gadolinium is deployed as an injectable contrast agent for MR imaging.
