Molybdenum-Lanthanum Descriptions
Molybdenum-Lanthanum alloy (Mo-La alloy) is produced by adding lanthanum oxide to molybdenum. The alloy exhibits a higher recrystallisation temperature, improved ductility and excellent wear resistance. Molybdenum (Mo) is grey metallic and has the third highest melting point of all elements after tungsten and tantalum. It occurs in several oxidation states in minerals but does not exist as a free metal in nature.
Molybdenum is known for its strength and stability at high temperatures. It is frequently alloyed with other compounds to improve corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength. Consequently, molybdenum is used in the production of steel alloys, high-strength alloys and superalloys. Molybdenum compounds generally show low water solubility. In industry, they are applied in high-pressure and high-temperature operations such as in pigment manufacturing and catalyst production.
