at 233°C. As the simplest amino acid, its zwitterionic structure enables
pH-dependent behavior (pI 5.97), acting as a weak acid (pKa₁=2.34) and base
(pKa₂=9.60). It demonstrates excellent water solubility (25 g/100mL at 25°C),
moderate solubility in pyridine, and negligible solubility in nonpolar
solvents. Thermal analysis confirms stability below 200°C, with decarboxylation
releasing methylamine above 233°C. Pharmaceutical grades exhibit stringent
impurity controls: chloride ≤0.005%,
sulfate ≤0.006%, heavy
metals (Pb ≤1 ppm), and
