Silicon Carbide Heating Rods Description
Silicon carbide heating rods are non‐metallic high‐temperature heating elements manufactured from silicon carbide. In comparison with metal heating elements, these rods achieve operating temperatures at levels that reduce oxidation, provide an extended service life and maintain corrosion resistance.
The cold ends are impregnated with silicon metal, which is referred to as one-piece, and the cold ends with lower resistance, which are welded to the hot zone in the furnace, are designated as three-piece or LRE (Low Resistance End). The reduced electrical resistance of the cold end enables operation at a lower temperature. The element ends are metallised with aluminium to create a low resistance contact surface, to which electrical connections are established using braided aluminium bands.
