Tantal-Niob Discs Description
Tantal-Niob Discs are recognised for their documented material properties and various technical applications. These circular components provide resistance to corrosion, thereby making them useful in sectors such as chemical processing and aerospace. With a high melting point and adequate thermal conductivity, they are suitable for operation under extreme temperatures. Their precise dimensions and smooth surfaces enable their use in precision instruments and machine components. Tantal-Niob Discs can be machined to meet specific project requirements. They fulfil a significant role in technological processes and ensure durability and performance in defined applications.

- R055400, unalloyed Tantalum, produced by powder metallurgy consolidation.
- R05255, Ta-W Alloy, composed of 90% Tantalum and 10% Tungsten, processed using an electron beam furnace or vacuum arc melting or both.
- R05252, Ta-W Alloy, composed of 97.5% Tantalum and 2.5% Tungsten, produced by electron beam or vacuum arc melting or both.
- R05240, Ta-Nb Alloy, containing 60% Tantalum and 40% Niobium, processed using an electron beam furnace or vacuum arc melting.
Tantal-Niob Discs Applications
1. Chemical Processing: Used as corrosion-resistant discs in reactors, valves and pumps for the handling of corrosive chemicals in chemical plants.
2. Electronics: Employed as substrates for electronic components such as sensors, capacitors and integrated circuits due to their electrical conductivity and processing stability.
3. Aerospace: Utilised in components of aircraft and spacecraft including bearings, valves and thrust chambers because they exhibit a good strength-to-weight ratio and resistance to high temperatures.
4. Medical Devices: Used in medical implants, including pacemakers and orthopaedic implants, owing to their biocompatibility and resistance to body fluids.
5. Precision Instruments: Employed as precision discs in measuring devices, gauges and analytical instruments due to their accurate dimensions and smooth surfaces.
6. Energy Generation: Used in components for fuel cells and electrolysers because of their corrosion resistance and compatibility with harsh environments.
7. Semiconductor Manufacturing: Employed as substrates for semiconductor wafers and for thin-film deposition due to their high purity and stability during processing.
