Rene 88DT Alloy Powder Description
Rene 88DT Alloy Powder was designed to exhibit greater damage tolerance than Rene' 95, which is reflected in its DT designation. It provides improved creep resistance and resistance to fatigue crack growth. The production alloy is always processed by powder metallurgy. The standard heat treatment comprises a 1.0‑hour super‑solvus solution treatment at 1150 °C (2100 °F), followed by delayed oil quenching and an 8.0‑hour ageing treatment at 760 °C (1400 °F). Its principal microstructural characteristics include a fine grain size, achieved through PM consolidation, and a duplex distribution: the coarser fraction forms during cooling from the super‑solvus solution, while the finer fraction predominantly forms during ageing. Rene 88DT is utilised in disc applications in modern engines manufactured by General Electric Co.

Rene 88DT Alloy Powder Applications
- Aerospace: Rene alloys are frequently used in the manufacture of critical components in aircraft engines and gas turbines.
- Power Generation: Given their high‑temperature strength and corrosion resistance, Rene alloys are employed in power generation systems, for example, in turbine components in gas or steam turbines.
- Chemical Processing: The corrosion resistance of Rene alloys renders them suitable for use in aggressive chemical environments, thereby qualifying them for installations in chemical processing plants.
- Automotive: In certain high‑performance and motorsport applications, superalloys such as Rene alloys are used in components subject to extreme temperatures and loads, for example, exhaust systems.
