Corundum-Mullite Ceramic Honeycombs are a refractory product with a high alumina content, consisting of the main crystal phases corundum and mullite. The presence of low melting point oxide impurities reduces performance at high temperatures. The use of industrial alumina powder and pure clay, bauxite, or silicon dioxide as raw materials enables the synthesis of pure mullite raw materials, with particular emphasis on maintaining the content of alkali metal oxides as low as possible. Products made from mullite grains as aggregates exhibit good thermal cycling resistance but poor erosion resistance, while products made from corundum sand as aggregates demonstrate good corrosion resistance but provide poor thermal cycling resistance.

-Catalyst Supports

Honeycomb ceramics are utilised as catalyst supports, particularly in the cleaning of automotive exhausts, the denitrification of boiler flue gases (NOx), the deodorisation of industrial exhaust gases, and the removal of toxic and harmful gases.

The catalyst support made from cordierite honeycomb ceramics used in automotive exhaust cleaning primarily consists of cordierite honeycomb ceramic coated with γ-Al2O3.

-Refractory Firing Aids

The mass of extruded honeycomb ceramics is 60-75% lighter than that of conventional firing aids, enabling rapid heat transfer and thereby facilitating quick firing processes. When used for firing ferrites or other electronic ceramics, this aids in improving product performance.

Honeycomb ceramics with porous thin walls can filter and clean carbon particles in diesel exhaust gases.
