Applications of Hafnium Wires
Hafnium captures neutrons and is used in control rods for nuclear reactors. The nuclear industry consumes approximately 50 per cent of annual hafnium production. Hafnium is also used as an additive in alloys. Recently, scientists at Intel and IBM determined that hafnium-based compounds can be utilised in gate insulators, thereby reducing processor size.
