Aluminium Stubs Description

Aluminium stubs are precision-manufactured from high‑strength, heat‑treated alloys (series 6061 or 7075). Alloy 6061 exhibits good corrosion resistance and can be readily welded, while alloy 7075 provides a high level of strength for load‑bearing applications. The unprocessed surfaces maintain flatness tolerances (Ra ≤1,6 μm), thereby enabling accurate component assembly. Optional hard‑anodised coatings (25–50 μm thickness) provide increased surface hardness, wear resistance and electrical insulation. Their low density (2,7–2,8 g/cm³) reduces vibrations and inertial forces in rotating or oscillating systems, while the thermal conductivity (130–167 W/m‑K) supports effective heat dissipation. Non‑magnetic properties ensure compatibility with magnetically sensitive equipment and prevent interference with precision instruments or electronic assemblies.

Our products are packaged in customised cartons of various sizes, selected according to the dimensions of the material. Smaller items are securely packed in PP cartons, whereas larger items are placed in bespoke wooden crates. The packaging adheres to specified dimensions and appropriate cushioning materials are employed so that transport damage is minimised.

Manufacturing Process

Testing Procedures

(1) Chemical composition analysis – Verified by techniques such as GDMS or XRF to ensure compliance with purity requirements.

(2) Mechanical properties testing – Includes tensile strength, yield strength and elongation tests to assess material performance.

(3) Dimensional inspection – Measures thickness, width and length to ensure adherence to specified tolerances.

(4) Surface quality inspection – Checks for defects such as scratches, cracks or inclusions by visual and ultrasound examination.

(5) Hardness testing – Determines material hardness to confirm uniformity and mechanical reliability.

FAQs on Aluminium Stubs

Q1. Can anodised stubs conduct electricity?

Only bare or clear anodised surfaces conduct. With hard anodising (≥50V), insulating oxide layers form.

Q2. How can galvanic corrosion be prevented?

By isolating dissimilar metals (e.g. steel) using dielectric coatings or plastic spacers.

Q3. Maximum operating temperature?

175°C (T6 hardness). Prolonged exposure above 150°C may weaken aged alloys.

Common Preparation Methods

Stubs are solution heat‑treated at 530°C (6061) or 480°C (7075), water‑quenched and subsequently artificially aged (6061: 160°C for 18 h; 7075: 120°C for 24 h). The stubs are CNC‑turned to a tolerance of ±0,025 mm and receive threaded milling for fastening holes. For anodising, the stubs undergo alkaline cleaning, etching in NaOH and DC anodisation in 15% H₂SO₄ at 20 V to develop coatings 25–50 μm thick. Sealing in boiling deionised water increases corrosion resistance. The final inspection comprises an eddy current conductivity test and dimensional verification using a coordinate measuring machine (CMM).
