2025 Stanford Advanced Materials College Scholarship

2025 Stanford Advanced Materials College Scholarship

Advancing Applications and Technologies for Rare Metals

Rare metals are defined as those elements that occur infrequently in the Earth’s crust, are widely dispersed or present challenges during extraction from ores. Examples include Rhenium, Lithium, Beryllium, Titanium, Zirconium, Germanium, Niobium, Hafnium, Tungsten, Tantalum and rare earth metals. Their distinct physical and chemical properties ensure that these elements fulfil an essential role in industries such as high-technology, energy, medicine and other key sectors. This text outlines their contributions and examines future development trends.

Scholarship Overview

Stanford Advanced Materials (SAM) supplies materials for industries including aerospace, technology, healthcare and energy. SAM has studied the industrial applications and development trends of rare metals for many years. Consequently, outstanding students are invited to discuss practical applications and future directions. SAM is pleased to announce the establishment of the 2025 College Scholarship by Stanford Advanced Materials to support students who have demonstrated merit in this discipline.

Awards

  • 1 000-dollar Scholarship: Awarded to the submission that demonstrates original research, practical application and measurable impact in the field of rare metals.
  • Mention on the SAM Website: The successful project will be featured on the Stanford Advanced Materials website and shared through our academic and industrial networks.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Participants must be school students, university students or graduates worldwide. Submissions are accepted only in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian and Japanese.
  • Submissions must focus on industrial applications and development trends for rare metals.
  • Submissions should demonstrate originality, technical feasibility and a measurable impact on the industrial utilisation of rare metals.
  • Submissions generated using artificial intelligence (AI) are prohibited and will be disqualified.

Submission Guidelines

  • Summary: Provide a brief summary (maximum 250 words) that describes the project objectives, methods and significance.
  • Article: Submit an article (approximately 1 000 words) discussing the industrial applications and development trends of rare metals. You may select one or more rare metals for detailed analysis.
  • Biography: Include a brief biographical sketch (approximately 150 words) in italic at the end of the article, with the author’s name in bold.

Note: Your submission must include the following three components: Summary, Article and Biography. A submission containing only a biography is invalid. You may attach supporting images, for example, charts, diagrams and photographs. Ensure that you hold the appropriate rights to use these materials. By submitting your work, you agree that Stanford Advanced Materials (SAM) may use it for future marketing and educational purposes.

Important Dates

  • Submission Deadline: 01/09/2025, 22:00
  • Winner Announcement: 08/09/2025

How to Apply

Submit all application materials (including the Summary, Article and Biography) via the online form on this page. Ensure that every component complies with the specified guidelines.
