Wolfram Carbide-Nickel Powder (WC-Ni15 Powder) Description
Wolfram Carbide-Nickel Powder (WC-Ni15 Powder) is a composite material that combines the hardness and wear resistance of tungsten carbide with the properties of nickel. Nickel serves as a binder to interconnect the tungsten carbide particles, thereby improving the mechanical strength and cohesion of the tungsten carbide alloy. Nickel also increases the toughness, ductility and corrosion resistance of the composite material. The powder comprises fine tungsten carbide particles uniformly distributed within a nickel matrix, which results in a defined balance of strength, toughness and corrosion resistance.

Wolfram Carbide-Nickel Powder (WC-Ni15 Powder) Applications
- Cutting Tools: WC/Ni Powder is utilised in the manufacture of cutting tools such as drill bits, shank cutters and indexable inserts. It is applied for machining materials including steel, cast iron and certain composites, given its hardness and wear resistance.
- Wear Components: The powder is employed in the production of wear-resistant components including nozzles, seals and bearings. The combination of tungsten carbide and nickel provides measured resistance to abrasion, erosion and surface fatigue.
- Electrical Contacts: WC/Ni Powder is used in the production of electrical contacts because of its electrical conductivity and stability at elevated temperatures. It is applied in industries such as electronics, automotive and power distribution.
- Surface Coatings: The powder may be used for thermal spray coatings, whereby the applied layer offers resistance to wear and corrosion. This coating is used in the aerospace, oil and gas and chemical industries.
- Additive Manufacturing: WC/Ni Powder is utilised in powder bed fusion (PBF) processes to produce parts with quantifiable wear resistance and dimensional accuracy.
