Aluminium-Lithium Alloy (Al-Li) 2195 Description
Aluminium-Lithium (Al-Li) Alloy 2195 is used in military and aerospace applications. Lithium is the lightest metallic element. The addition of lithium to aluminium reduces the alloy's specific weight and increases its stiffness, while it retains high tensile strength, suitable corrosion and fatigue resistance, and acceptable ductility.
Lithium decreases density and increases stiffness when alloyed with aluminium. With appropriate alloy design, aluminium-lithium alloys achieve defined combinations of strength and toughness.
