Monel 405 (Alloy 405, UNS N04405) Pipe/Description
Monel 405 (Alloy 405, UNS N04405) Pipe is a nickel–copper alloy containing cobalt and molybdenum. It has a higher sulphur content than Monel 400, which improves its machinability so that it does not produce sparks. Monel 400 and R405 both resist seawater and steam at high temperatures, as well as salt and alkalies. It also resists sulphuric acids and can be used at temperatures below 0°C.
A post‐weld heat treatment is not required for Monel R405. However, thorough cleaning after welding is essential to secure optimal corrosion resistance. Failure to clean may result in contamination and embrittlement.
